Our History
Cedar Valley Grange was organized under the name of Halls Lake Grange in April of 1909. Mr. H. H. Burleson was the first Master and meetings were held in the old log schoolhouse. In the beginning, the first purpose of the Grange was socialization and second was to advocate for road improvements in the area. In April of 1920, three lots were purchased south across from the present Grange Hall and a temporary building was slated to be used as a warehouse. A new hall was built onto the temporary building and was dedicated on October 15, 1921, with the first meeting held on Oct. 22, 1921. The name was changed to Cedar Valley Grange in July of 1927. In December of 1928, the hall was remodeled, adding a kitchen and dining room. City water was installed in February of 1940 for a Pomona meeting. A loan of $1,500 was obtained from the State Grange in June of 1949 to move the hall and build a concrete block basement.
Today, the Grange is two stories with a dance hall on the upper floor and meeting area and kitchen on the lower floor. Building improvements continue to be made each year including a handicap accessible bathroom, parking/loading area, and ramp. The upper floor is used by dance clubs while the lower floor is used by various types of clubs and rented by the community for birthdays and celebrations.
